About Us

Our Goal

Wilhaus began with a simple idea — that designing a home and building it shouldn’t be two separate journeys.

Founded by interior designer
Amy Spargo and builder William McKenna, our Mornington Peninsula design studio brings design and construction together under one roof. Two disciplines, one team, working from the first conversation to the final detail.

Amy and Will had worked alongside one another for years before joining forces. Time and again they’d met clients who felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of people, decisions and moving parts involved in creating a home. Bringing award-winning design and construction together under one roof was the natural answer — a single, collaborative way of working that gives clients confidence around budget, timing and the home they end up living in.

Amy Spargo — Interior Design

Amy is the design half of Wilhaus, and the founder of Maine House Interiors. She’s known for interiors that feel classic and timeless — spaces shaped around the people who live in them, with a gift for mixing old with new and slipping in an element of surprise through pattern, colour and one-off found pieces.

Her eye was shaped early. She grew up in a home of blue-and-white china, layered patterns and a much-loved garden, watching her mother — a natural decorator with a bold hand, bring high-end and humble pieces together into rooms where everyone felt at ease. Travels through the United States later deepened that sensibility, introducing her to a style of architecture and interiors that has stayed with her ever since.

Amy came to design by a slightly unexpected route, moving across from behavioural science before finding her feet in the industry — first at a prominent architecture firm, then in a smaller interiors studio, before founding Maine House Interiors. Along the way she was mentored by some remarkable women, among them the late Janne Faulkner of Nexus Designs, an Australian design icon who taught her to draw inspiration from people, places and cultures, and her own mother, who showed her that the slightly imperfect, unexpected touch is often what brings a room to life.

William McKenna — Construction

Will is the build half of Wilhaus, and the founding director of Wilken Homes. With more than a decade in the industry, he’s grown a building company from a one-man operation into a collective of skilled trades, carpenters and coordinators who share the same standard of care.

His passion for fine craftsmanship and beautiful architecture took root early, as an apprentice working on some of Victoria’s finest award-winning homes. That grounding shaped the way he builds — an eye for detail learned on sites where nothing less than exceptional would do. Over the years he’s deliberately taken on diverse projects, across a wide range of building styles and materials, in the belief that every home and every family is different and deserves to be built that way.

As director, Will stays close to every project. He liaises directly with clients and their team throughout design and construction, oversees the technical compliance of each build, and works hand in hand with his site crews to protect quality at every stage. Behind the scenes, dedicated coordinators manage the finer details so each project runs smoothly from concept through to completion; on site, skilled trades bring craftsmanship to every stage of the build. It’s the seamless way these two sides work together — those managing the process and those shaping it on the ground — that defines how Wilken Homes builds.

Will holds his Cert III in Carpentry, Cert IV in Building and Construction, and his registration as a Domestic Builder (Unlimited), and is an active member of the Housing Industry Association.

Better Together

The strength of Wilhaus is in the partnership.
Behind the scenes, a dedicated team manages the finer details so every project runs smoothly from first idea to completion. On site, skilled trades turn design into something real, with precision and genuine care. And because the designer and the builder sit at the same table from the very beginning, nothing gets lost in the handover — what you imagine and what you live in are one and the same.

Between them, Amy and Will’s work has been featured in Australian House & Garden, Home Beautiful, Melbourne Home, Domain and ArchiPro — recognition that reflects the detail, care and service they bring to every home.

This is design and build, as one.
The way it always should have been.

Better, with you.
